U11 Nationals defeat #3 team in country to make US Clubs Cup Finals

The Schwaben U11 boys team beat the Chicago Magic 3-2 in Penalty Kicks tonight to continue their run to the State Cup Finals. Powered by 2 goals by former Magic forward Evan Gerke, and sterling goal-keeping by Sean Chervets the U11 Nationals will now await the winner of the Losers Bracket to play for the State Cup on June 20th at Olympic Park in Schaumburg. Playing at home and playing with confidence, the Nationals surprised the previously undefeated, #3 team in the country with several breaks and finally put one in to take a 1-0 lead. The Magic fought back to take a 2-1 lead but a PK save by Chervets energized the boys and when Mattie Brickman fed Evan for the tying goal, the game REALLY started. Both Dennis Gavrila and Kelli Pietrowski cleared balls off the goal line late to preserve the tie. Sparkling play in the midfield by Mattie, Kelli, Andrew Groysman, Randy Pietrowski, and Michael Piechota helped slow the high-flying Magic and the back line of Robert Rao, Allen Veksler, Max Klikuszowian, and newcomer Yuta Harada kept them out of the net. The game went to Penalty Kicks and 2 saves by Chervets and goals by Michael, Robert, Mattie, and Dennis finished off the victory.
